Frequently Asked Questions - Vend-Sense

(1) How can power savings be demonstrated?

A site survey can be carried out showing the current readings and savings with each unit.  For an example, please click here.

(2) Is it possible to adjust the length of time between the last motion detected and the machine switching off?

All units are fully adjustable for shutdown, start up and refresh periods.

(3) Who is able to adjust the timings on the unit?

As Vend-Sense is electrical equipment, it should only be serviced by qualified personnel.

(4) Do we require a PAT test to be done?

All units are tested before being delivered.

(5) Who will provide the training and technical backup?

Onsite training and technical backup is available from Automatic Retailing personnel.

(6) Can a single motion sensor run multiple Vend-Sense units?

Yes, one sensor can switch on several Vend-Sense units.

(7) Where a customer has a bank of machines, does each machine require its own unit?

Yes, one unit per machine is required.

(8) Are machines supplied with built-in sensors?

No, Vend-Sense is fitted externally to the power supply.

(9) Where can the sensors be located in relation to the vending machine?

Sensors can be located on the machine or anywhere in its vicinity i.e. the ceiling / wall.

(10) On a site with 24 hour security, will a security guard “doing his rounds” trigger the machines to switch back on?

The sensors can be fitted in a location that requires personnel to be very close to the machines’ vicinity.

(11) From being switched off, how long does it take for a hot drinks machine to heat up?

It will take approximately 6-9 minutes depending on tank capacity, element ratings and ambient temperature.

(12) In the time that the machine is switched off, will the hot drinks ingredients go off?

No, the ingredients will not be affected by the machine switching off.

(13) If Vend-Sense is fitted to a snacks machine, will it result in chocolate melting when it is switched off?

No, Vend-Sense can be programmed to switch off at various timed intervals, which enables the temperature to stay cool.

(14) If a snack, food or cold drinks machine is left switched off overnight will the refrigeration unit defrost?

No, Vend-Sense saves the refrigeration unit from running for long periods of inactivity, which would merely result in no ice building up on the fridge.

(15) Are there any types of machines that Vend-Sense is unsuitable for?

Food vendors are not suitable and if fitted to a machine with cold water option, a flush time setting is recommended.

(16) What are the main differences between time clocks and Vend-Sense units?

While time clocks are cheaper in capital value, the following disadvantages should be considered:

• They are more difficult to fit and adjust, which lessens the productivity of a vending machine
• Current loading can cause problems with life span of time clocks
• As they are easy to disconnect, certain people maybe tempted to steal them
• They tend to get unplugged if an employer’s work patterns change
• On average, a single time clock would have to be adjusted 10 times in a 5 year cycle
• In event of a power failure they require to be re-set

(1) What is our cost in the installation of your vending machines?

We arrange delivery and installation of our machines at no cost to you depending on location.

(2) Are we able to lease or rent the machines as opposed to purchasing outright?

As well as being able to purchase the machines, customers are able to lease. Together with our finance partners, BNP Paribas Lease Group, we can offer a wide range of lease terms.

(3) Do we own the machine once the lease agreement has come to an end?

At the end of the lease term, the machine is still owned by the lease company. However, the customer can then purchase the machine for a nominal fee.

(4) Can we decide what products will be offered for sale in your vending machines?

We will be happy to work with you to ensure that products in our machines will suit the requirements of you and your staff. In addition, we can combine both conventional as well as healthy products in the same machine.

(5) What service do you provide in terms of cleaning and filling food machines?

While Automatic Retailing does not provide a service for filling food machines, we have food partners who are able to carry out this service on our behalf.

(6) Can our company fill the machines ourselves?

The customer can opt to fill the machines themselves. We have machines in our hot drinks range which are better suited for self-fill, for example, In-cup and table tops. We are then able to train the members of staff to operate the machine and wholesale the product to the customer.

(7) Our company have branches all over the UK - can you supply a service at national level?

We can supply a national service through our membership of the Cover Group, who have members throughout the UK.  For more information on the Cover Group, log onto http://www.covergroup.co.uk.

(8) What is a Bean to Cup machine?

A Bean To Cup machine is able to dispense high quality speciality drinks such as Caffe Latte, Cafe Mocha and Cappuccino from freshly ground beans. On a table top machine, the beans are normally visible and contained in a bean hopper on top of the machine.

(9) What‘s the difference between a Single Freshbrew and a Double Freshbrew hot drinks machine?

A Single Freshbrew hot drinks machine will only provide one freshbrew option i.e. fresh leaf tea or fresh ground coffee, but a Double Freshbrew hot drinks machine is capable of dispensing both freshbrew tea and coffee.
